School of Religion Sacramental Information Sacraments are a time for the Parish Community to come together and support our youth in their religious faith. The Sacrament preparation for both the School and SOR children are done in unison and the retreats bring the entire community together to rejoice is these joyful events. First Reconciliation, First Eucharist and Confirmation are coordinated through the School of Religion personnel with the support of Father Craig, and a Team of Parent Volunteers for Confirmation. Two “Parent Only “meetings for First Reconciliation and First Eucharist are mandatory. These meetings are designed to give the parents important information they will need to know to help prepare your child in coordination with the material they will be covering in class. Please check the Parish Calendar for these dates. Retreats are held prior to the First Sacraments to bring the children of both the school and SOR together to help strengthen the community, review the purpose of the sacrament, and answer any questions the children may have. Again, please check the Parish Calendar for these dates. First Reconciliation and First Eucharist Children prepare for their First Reconciliation (Confession) during the start of their Second grade year. In the event that your child is pass the Second grade year and has not received these Sacraments, please be sure to bring this to the attention of the SOR Director. We have a Catechist available to make sure that your child is understanding the materials and can work with them outside of their regular religious class. Parents of all children that are in need of their First Sacraments must attend the appropriate meetings as well as have their child attend the Retreats.
Confirmation (Please
see the Parish Youth site for complete Preparation for Confirmation typically begins during their middle school grades (6–8). A child can receive Confirmation during their Eighth grade year if they are attending a formal religious education program (SOR) or attending a Catholic school and had the recommendation by the Religious Education Director and Father Craig. Our Confirmation Team has an additional enrollment form that must be completed. Four to Five Workshops or Sessions are scheduled throughout the year to help prepare the Candidate and their Sponsor and are in addition to the regular religious education classes.
