St. Jerome put it bluntly: “Ignorance of Scripture is ignorance of Christ.” When we read Scripture we come to know God in a deeper way while also growing in our faith. Just as we grow friendships and come to know our friends, loved ones, and spouse by listening and spending time with them, we also grow in our relationship with God through prayer and Scripture.

A beautiful way to supplement our reading is by praying Lectio Divina (Divine Reading). By meditating on God’s Word, speaking to Him, and listening to Him we deepen our divine intimacy with Him. Creating a resolution in this time and asking for the Lord’s help in living it out, can change the way we live our life. As St. Jerome reminds us, “Do you pray? You speak to the Bridegroom. Do you read? He speaks to you.”
