Marriage

“Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ loved the church and handed himself over for her to sanctify her, cleansing her by the bath of water with the word. So [also] husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.”

Ephesians 5:25-26; 28

Man and woman were created in the image and likeness of God; therefore, the Sacrament of Marriage (Matrimony) between a man and a woman represents the love between Christ and his Church. It bonds the Christian couple together in one union and confirms the couple’s promise to love each other as Christ loved the Church.

To enter into the sacrament of Marriage and receive God’s blessing publicly, the couple must freely choose to marry; promise to be faithful to their spouse; and be open to having children.

This sacrament helps perfect the couple’s love and strengthen their relationship and unity. The couple vows to help one another grow in their faith, and commit to teaching their children about God and his Church.
